The focal point of the conference was mainly
around the loss of manufacturing jobs in America in the last few years.
Caused by bad legislation, no legislation, and legislators who just don’t
care, 2.7 millions manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last 3 years.
This will be the first administration with
negative job growth since the depression. Why are they wanting to pass
more trade agreements? What we need is legislation that will bring our
manufacturing jobs back to America; legislation that will protect workers
rights to join Unions; legislation that will protect retired workers benefits.
The list goes on and on. The Crisis in America today is in manufacturing.
We must let the Legislators know we are watching.
The Industrial Union Council Legislative
Conference meeting we attended centered around Revitalizing
American Manufacturing featuring speeches from Senate Minority
Leader Tom Daschle, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer
Bill Lucy and Linda Chavez-Thompson, Executive Vice President, AFL-CIO.
On Tuesday we visited several Representatives
of Texas. Nicholas V. Lampson, D-9th, Ron E. Paul, R-14th, Gene Green,
D-29th, and Tom Delay, R-22th.
On the final day of our Rapid Response Overview
we had Independent Representative Bernie Sanders, of Vermont, speak on
what is going on, on Capitol Hill. Issues like the overtime bill, FTAA,
and job loss in America.
Rapid Response is going to be
a very important part of bringing the government back to the people.
In Solidarity,
Whitey
